Once again, Coast Mountain Bus Company (www.coastmountainbus.com) is again accepting applications for Conventional Transit Operator Trainees...

"Conventional" means the full sized buses, the 40 & 60 footers... It also means full time regular status with benefits as well...

$20.44 an hour while in the 6 weeks training program... After your 1st year you'll earn 3 weeks vacation, with options for up to 4 more weeks- 2 weeks of banked stats and up to 10 days worth of banked OT...

On a side note: They occasionally also accept applications for Community Shuttle, those are the smaller van like buses, and those opportunities are often part time or even just casual in nature... BC Transit- Victoria is currently accepting applications for Shuttle drivers...

If you go to the CAREERS page over at www.translink.ca there are links to almost all of the subsidiaries and contractors... MVT Canada operates the HandyDart system under contract with Translink. MVT Canada just recently won a new contract to provide similar services out in St Johns Newfoundland, and they are actively hiring out there as well...

Update: There has been a bit of a hiring freeze on at Coast Mountain Bus Company since early May.. $30 Million shortfall in the budget... They will need more operators soon, but no training going on while they deal with the funding shortfalls...

TransLink does have a new webpage, with detailed information on the process to become a Transit Operator...

www.translink.ca/en/About-Us/Careers/Bus-Operators.aspx is the link to detailed infromation about Qualifications, Pay & Benefits, the 8 steps of the hiring process, and FAQ's too...

Hearing thru the grapevine that CMBC needs to hire 300 more drivers in 2014, and to also keep up with an expected "big" number of retirees again in 2015 too!!

Apparently, drivers hired prior to 1980, were BC Hydro employees, but then things changed including pension options...
So, they are approaching their 35 years of service now....

If I hear of anything "official", I'll post it here....

Conventional Operator Trainees are usually hired at the rate of say 12-14 (or similar) every 2 weeks... 6 weeks paid training...

Community Shuttle Ops get 2 weeks paid training...
