Do any of you sail? I never have, but think it could be quite a peaceful hobby.

I have a good friend that lives in San Mateo, and he goes sailing alot. It sounds like the greatest hobby, but I guess it can get interesting with weather changes and things. There is lots to learn and know.

This thread reminds me of that great Christopher Cross song

Sailing takes me away
To where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free

I had that song in my head when I was writing above! I'm not sure if I should study wtih books before hand, or just learn with lessons on the water.

Sailing. What a wonderful hobby. I've patients who sail whenever they can. One of their boys participated in a group where they sailed from Vancouver to Hawaii. I can only imagine the sunsets that they see over the vast ocean.

I wish I could sail but I get seasick just thinking about it.

Its when you start hearing whole conversations when nobody is there- that is when the sunsets really get interesting.

You must see a lot of marine life when you're sailing. Dolphins? Whales? What's the best part about sailing for you, Salty Dog?

Came across a container covered in seaweed half way to Hilo- Sharks circling around. Sailing through a whole sea of man-o-war jelly fish.
Sunsets and moon rainbows. Crystal clear starry nights. Thirty foot seas and 50 knotwinds!. Trying to make a cup of coffee in a galley at 45 degrees. Utter and complete exhaustion. Mixed bag of experiences.

Container ships often lose containers over the side and they float around he Pacific being a danger to vessels.

I guess there is not much you can do with a sailboat when you find a container like that? Do people go out in tugboats and salvage them? Is it finders keepers?

The one I can across had five or six sharks circling it so I decided not to  investigate further. Its amazing what you come across a thousand miles out.
