Flu/H1N1 shots...

We will all be offered vaccinations by Nov 15  but right now they are only available to people in high risk groups.

geesus forn i was around in the day of the great polio haunt, the iron lung, and remember well the lines at school everyone getting the big booster shot, so friggin glad that crap was irradicated, i had a few friends back in the day t hat got and are gibled up because of it

Our goverment hasn't got enough to go around ...unless you have an existing condition like asthma or a heart condition.

On the otherhand some of the side effects sound worse than the flu

(Hope I don't sound cynical there ... I don't have much faith in politicians)

My mother wouldn't let me have the polio vaccine until about the time I was 8 by then it was the new version.  I don't usually get flu vaccine and don't know if I will this time but I've told my 26 year old daughter to get hers today as she has asthma and if she gets it it will be bad.

I think i had that in like grade 1 or something like that. I remember we use to have to eat a coloured sugar cube too, can't remember what that was for.

hiya NSgirl ... don't know whether it's different over in the UK but the polio vaccine was on the sugar cube

I remember standing in the queue for it and me best friend  and me thought the sugar cube was a treat for having bravely suffered the other injections ...  she didn't want hers and so I had two.
don't think it harmed me

Researchers draw connection between young people and H1N1

Young people are dying from the H1N1 virus and now scientists may know why. Turns out a strong immune system can be a bad thing.

Some experts believe deaths among otherwise healthy people could be because their bodies are creating an extreme immune response, essentially a case of the immune system turning on itself to fight the virus. Those who become desperately ill could be a victim of a particular trait of H1N1 and how it can stick to deep lung tissue and cause viral pneumonia.

In parts of B.C., like the Interior, the vaccine isn't being dispensed quite as quickly as some would like but doctors with the local health authority insists they're trying to get the roll-out going as fast as possible.
