A proposed B.C. law would allow municipal officials to enter homes to seize unauthorized and possibly anti-Olympic signs on short notice, civil libertarians say. Violators could be fined up to $10,000 a day and jailed up to six months, the B.C. Civil Liberties Association said Friday. The proposed law was introduced Thursday as a bill to amend the Municipalities Enabling and Validating Act. The government said in a statement that the changes will "provide the municipalities of Vancouver, Richmond and Whistler with temporary enforcement powers to enable them to swiftly remove illegal signs and graffiti during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games." "The legislation does not change the existing scope of authority to regulate signs and graffiti. Rather, it provides, on a temporary basis, a faster way of removing signs and graffiti that violate municipal bylaws during the short period the Games are underway." Bill Bennett, the minister of community and rural development, said that given the short duration of the Olympics, the cities of Richmond, Whistler, and Vancouver must be able to enforce their own bylaws quickly. "That to me seems like a reasonable thing to do when you've got the Olympic games lasting 20-odd days," Bennett said. "You've got the potential for some businesses to try and exploit the games logo without having paid for the rights to do that. I think its a reasonable thing for communities to want to remove those kinds of signs, and to remove them before then end of the Olympic Games." http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2009/10/09/bc-anti-olympic-sign-law-bccla.html?ref=rss

I Have an appointment made to have my broken teeth fixed with in the next month I am not sure what it will cost... but as long as its under $ 25,000.00 I can afford it... Work coverage is 75 percent and my credit is good enough to cover the 25 percent through a loan from the bank... (another 2 months and my credit card will be finally paid off) best part is the dental plan we just got... has no dollar limits... though only 1 full set of dentures per 3 years.. Not sure how many crowns we are limited to.. white porcelain is allowed but gold are not I have medical and dental through extended health from work.. jail would not be Good for me. I am in a bonded career field... doing time would mean a criminal record and the loss of my nice cushy job... even though it would give me free medical free dental and best of all a FREE EDUCATION... BUT with a Criminal Record, I would not be able to do my job i would lose my bonded status & my security clearance would be revoked and that would seriously hurt my bottom line. I would never be able to work swing shifts at the ports again, Never able to do a shift at the supreme or provincial courts again, not to mention I would lose all my medical and dental benefits.. No more Private hospital Rooms.. No More home care workers to clean my house or help with my shopping when I am to sick to do so.. having to pay my own Monthly prescription costs some times exceeding 1000 dollars.. 1 medication I was on was 100 dollars per day x 90 days Could you imagine having to pay for that... or some of those anti cancer medications some of which cost 30,000 to 50,000 per month... Bi-weekly blood tests done on a out patient basis might mean having to go back to hospital 2 days a month... NO THANKS!!! to that.. Getting a criminal record for stating our beliefs is Criminal Can we sue the government for breaking our inherit right allowed under the charter of rights ?? we need some serious legal eagles on this.. Now if i could get all my medical and dental while in Jail with out the risk of a permanent criminal record, following me around I could almost almost be willing to accept the consequences But I just Can't.... losing my job now would probably kill me... It is not much but it gives me what I need ... So sadly with the passing of this law I will not be protesting like I had originally planned too... I just can not risk losing everything I have...
