i'm not sure i grasp the concept. where is the 'puzzle'Huh i realize the 2nd one is flipped 90 degrees, but i don't see the puzzle. the first one is just weird. anyway, i have one something like the second one somewhere. i'll search and post later if i find it.

I can see what your supposed to see in the first pic but it does nothing for me either.  But I liked the second.

figure this puzzle out. everything is the same size in both. there is no cheap trick here.

because the yellow piece has gone from covering 3  green cubes to only covering 2 cubes ,so now there is an empty spot!
It is not difficult.
the red piece now covers the 8 squares made up by adding the 5 yellow and 3 green squares together.

well yes, but count the squares in both, 5 high by 13 long. how can the exact same pieces take up the exact same outer shape, size and profile, filling one in completely while leaving an empty square in the other???

it just is. That's how it is if you arrange the blocks from pic 1 to pic 2. I don't know how to solve this, cause this is just the way it is.

The "solution" is simple.  The top line of the triangle isn't straight.  If you hold a straight edge to the top line, you will find that it is curved "in" in the top triangle, and it's curved "out" in the bottom triangle.  This accounts for the extra block.

that's correct. the smaller triangle has a different angle off of the 90 degree corner angles THAN the larger one forming an outward or inward dent depending how the two are arranged.

i would not call it a trick. it is mathematical. there is nothing hidden or kept from you. i'll bet anyone who took basic trigonometry and passed would have seen it right away.

if you count the squares, you'll see the larger triangle has a 3 to 8 slope and the smaller has a 2 to 5 slope which can not make a straight line when their right angles are squarely placed.

however, i gotta say, i took trig and did quite well and i missed it--but it has been over ten yrs and i forget most of it now. i remember the 3,4,5 triangle that gives you a perpendicular line for drawing 90 degree angles and that's about it. lol too bad cuz trig is useful in real life uses.

so the colors and lines throw off our eyes? if it was all one color it would be easier to tell if there is a curve

I'm still not sure about it

the only lines that might throw one off are the extra thick black lines surrounding the pieces. they kinda are hiding the slope changes against the grid. if you look at the two pics, you can still see how the thick lines cross the gridlines at slightlly different points, but it would be more clear if they were thin, i'd think. still, the big key is the different ratios of the two triangles--3 to 8 and 2 to 5. technically, i guess you are correct about it being a trick. if someone used this type of scheme to make money off of an unsuspecting victim, i'd call it being fooled or 'tricked' into a scam.

it is a trick because within the limitations of viewing the thick lines on a computer screen, we are led to assume that the lines are straight, so it is kind of a ripoff  Tongue
