This is a very helpful link. click on a variety of topics on your left hand side.It can answer many different finacial questions and has tax tips etc. I just found it by accident and it looks interesting the way they have it set up.
Lots of ads on the page so just don't click on those!

yck  the best plan for finacial wealth is to not put all your money into one thing.[don't put all your eggs in one basket] Sure buy some gold but there are many things that will make you money besides gold!

I have bought RRSP since I was 18 years old. It is a good way to defer tax. You get money back to reinvest and usually when you retire you will be taxed less on the money you use from your RRSP as you will be in a lower tax bracket. You only get taxed on the money as you use it.

the max now for 2008 is $20,000 my husband can put that amount in but because I am in a pension plan with my work I can not put that much in besides I don't make enough to qualify for that amount.  If you are in a high tax bracket ,you should be buying a RRSP every year. Even if your not they are usually a good choice assuming you do not take the money out early!

there are some other tips on that link you might find useful.

I think she did arise from Oprahs star making machine. Looks like the US president got a lot of help from it too. I never watch Suzie Orman because I find her patronizing condescending way of talking down to people disgusting.
There's a show called All Maxed Out (I think that's what its called) that is pretty interesting. It's pretty realistic in describing how people get themselves in over their heads. Much like the "diet industry" exists because people refuse to accept that a healthy diet and exercise is all that it takes, the "personal finance disaster industry" exists because people refuse to accept that living within your means and having diversified investments is all that it takes to stay out of trouble.
