Name tag situation at work

The Thrifty Foods I work at has been out of blank name tags since before I joined.  I have asked my supervisors several times about getting me a name tag, but they said that they've already contacted the head office but the people at the head office have been taking their time.

Apparently, on Friday or Saturday, Thirfty's got one new blank name tag from the head office, but instead of the supervisors giving it to me, they gave it to someone named Thomas on his first day.  Why?  Their explanation is that I wasn't there on the day that they got the name tag, and Thomas was there, so they gave it to him.  Yet I've been there a month and a half and I still don't have a name tag.

I guess I'm going to have to take matters into my own hands -- I'm going to have my make my own name tag.

But if that's the case, then why are they letting me work there at all?
