Best present you can get your kid for Christmas,if they're over say 9 or 10 is a video camera and tripod of their own. Forget the xboxes and that crap buy then a video camera.

parents tend to only video tape birthdays, concerts holidays etc.

I let my kids start using the camera when my daughter was in about grade 4
OMG the stuff they taped is fatastic. Now that they are in their teens we watch the hilarious plays and stuff they made complete with awesome special effects.
she found effects on that camera I didn't even know existed.

we have a whole collection of videos of themselves and ALL their friends they grew up with.It is priceless. It is stuff a parent would NEVER capture on their own in a million years.

well worth the price and your kids if they get into it will spend countless hours being creative making homemade movies, commercials, music videos etc.

no,nothing like that. My daughter use to act like a director.
she would write a basic story and have all her friends play the parts.

she did a super funny one with her girlfriend and her little brother changing bodies[like freaky friday] my son would do the voice over for her girlfriends acting and vice versa. he was quite little then and it is so cute with his squeaky little baby voice coming out of her friends acting scenes.

She did another play which she literaly worked on for about 2 years with all her school friends. They would even take the camera outside and down into the neighbourhood store for some interesting footage[she got permission first] she also filmed in the graveard and all over. She actualy made some awesome movies. I seriously thought I had the next Stephen Spielberg on my hands!LOL

These movies are such a treat to have now.I look at my little boy so cute back then and now he is sprouting up like a weed.[Sad]

A childs imagination is awesome,so creative. They used that camera 200 times more then I would have ever use it. we are on our third camera for them now. Green screen for special effects, lighting etc

I tell you,it is a great skill to learn.People even hired her to do filming for them once she got known how good she was at it!

Buy a tripod it makes all the difference.

your right! We have a fire proof box but just have stuff like a will and passports in it. I just don't think they would make one big enough to store all our photos ,videos etc. a fire would be the worse thing really. that sucks that that happened to you!

I've already seen a doctor, around May or June I believe.  She didn't tell me anything that I didn't already know.
