Okay, i'm watching this show about obesity and their resepective surgerys. As a med school drop out, I have always been intrigued by the practice of medicine both modern and post modern.  Why in god's name have people resorted to surgery to lose weight?  If obesity is regarded as a disease such as alcoholism (I don't know of any surgeries that can eliminate alcoholism)then why is such a disease removable by surgery, wheras alcoholism must be eliminated through life changes, and perhaps psychiatric help... The fat now have an easy way out, I just don't get it.

I knew a girl growing up, she was a few years younger then me and she was always quite fat. when she became a young adult she decided to have her stomach stapled. she lost weight at first, they all do.However as time went on she some how managed to get fat again!

stomach stapling still allows for "grazing"  because when you sit to eat a meal, sure you can only eat a few mouthfuls, but an hour later, you're gonna eat a few more mouthfuls.. and again, and again... The BOTTOM line is DIET and EXCERCISE!  For some reason people for eons have found ways to cheat this very simple and easy (and FREE) system, yet they fail to grasp the concept.  I just don't get it!

Neither do I!!Perhaps it is called being lazy! to me I am the opposite, I have to remember to eat something, I'll go a good chunk of the day without eating and then get dizzy or something and figure sh- no wonder I have not eaten!I do like my junk food and eat a bit too much chocolate at times but I figure that is a girl thing! we all do that, don't we???[Wink]I also love my hikes,I am not too big on arobics or weights etc but I am active. It is nothing for me to be out for a couple of hours a day walking.

I think the key is just that.. don't be lazy and keep busy.  I find most really heavy people I know remain catatonic most of their lives, and just can't get the energy up to do anything, its a cycle, a vicious one, but it can be broken
