Generally I don't last with employers for longer than one year.  I'll get bored with my job by then and seek new employment...

I don't mind my job and what I do I just don't like the company I'm doing it for... I started there to help another girl and when she left no one was hired to help me... I don't know why my boss figures I can do it by myself when the other girl couldn't...

Bosses/owners are cheap.  If you prove just once that you can do the job of two people, they will expect it every time.  The only way to counter that would be to start working really slow.  You may run the risk of disciplinary action, but if you're ready to quit anyhow, it probably won't make a difference...

It's been time for a new job for a while... my only real problem is that I don't have a car to get anywhere and no one in Abbotsford will call me for an interview... I've been applying like crazy at the banks and TD just recently hired and not ONE f***in phone call to me... pisses me off... I don't know what I gotta do to get just one freakin chance...

I could probably hire you, Mandy, but there are certain "expectations" that come with the position....

What usually worked for me in the past is persistence. When you hand deliver your resume (always!) make sure its being given to the chief decision maker, and LOOK SHARP.  Be well rested and polished, and be prepared for an immediate interview!

sometimes you have to make your own chances! Get in their face in person if you have too1 it is harder to say no to an actual person then to just a piece of paper on a desk! if you know someone is hiring somewhere make a  point to show up to introduce yourself and say you would really appreciate an interview.  Find what you want and then just go for it and take it! Be as assertive in the job world as you are on here and you you will get hired[Wink] watch the movie "in pursuit of happyness" to inspire you! my husband even says sometimes he has potential staff try to meet him in person, and it is harder to say no once someone is more persistant!

I've done all that you guys and the woman said to my face we aren't hiring before she even looked at my resume... and then 3 weeks later there's new tellers with trainee name tags... It irritates the hell outta me... I'm perfectly capable of doing the job and I would like to work my way up... it's not like I'm asking for a financial manager position right away... I just want a freakin chance...

well you have to remember if she's got a niece applying for the job, she's most likely not going to give you a chance for it.

When i worked retail we would always get people dropping off their resumes and cover letters for jobs. If they give them to the manager they sometimes put it in a big pile, or if desperate give it a look right away.

If they gave it to one of us to give to the manager, we would base it on whether we'd like to work with that person or not. If we said no, we'd trash it. I'm not even joking.

I know it looks pretty stupid if you're asking for the general manager's time just to hand him a resume, but if you can catch him on his way in or out that's your best bet. I'm not sure who you were handing them out to before, but that would be my number 1 advice.

Are banks your only consideration right now?  Do you have another option to try? Are you currently in this line of work or is it just something you always wanted to do?
there are so many places hiring right now,I am sure you can get a half decent job! Go for the benefits!!! Try to get a job someplace that will offer you and the kids full coverage, with dental!

Sure finding a job for me that would pay me what I'm getting now (not much) plus benefits would be great... but NO ONE will call me back.. the best chance I had was applying at General Paints in Vancouver and was planning on having a car in couple weeks so it would have been ok... But now anywhere I apply to does not even call me back... I would like to work in a bank I don't want to be a teller but I figure that's the easiest way to get in and I can work my way up... but NO ONE is giving me a chance... I've even talked to some of the tellers and they've told me the only way they got the job is because they knew someone or were related to someone in the bank... Even applying at any other place is not working... I've looked and applied online, job bank, news paper, and networking... I've emailed my resume, and dropped so many off in person... I've been dressed in my suit every time... I've called back to make sure my resume was received... I've called back to check if they've had a chance to schedule interviews... I've sent thank you emails for taking the time to review my resume...

... I need a hug...
