I noticed in a few of your posts you mentioned you are a vegetarian.
do you have any good simple dinner ideas I can steal from you?
My kids are both vegetarian.I try my best to be vegetarian but always find I start eating a bit of meat again because I get sooo bored with food. Are your kids vegetarian? What do you make for dinner. I can only make so many pasta, stir fry and soup dishes!
what else can I make that is good??? Please give me some suggestions

thanks[Wink]

What I do sometimes is substitute veggie ground for meat and the meat eaters can't really tell the difference... This might be harder for you because you're the meat eater and the one cooking it so you might be psyched already before you taste it... both of my kids are carnivors so it's tough to get them to eat a meal without meat... I find it more difficult to satisfy meat eaters than just serving vegetables to vegetarians... For a long time I made three seperate meals a night because my son was a meat a cheese kid my daughter was a meat and soy cheese kid (dairy allergy) and I was a soy meat substitute mom... I would suggest a vegan cook book though... if you like I can go home and look for some good recipies to email you...

What about eggs, NSgirl? I mean, for some true vegans, eggs are not an option but you could serve eggs to your kids? I always find that if I have to make a vegetarian dish for one night, I always go for tofu. Stir-fry tofu with beans and whatever veggies makes a good satisfying dish.

Eggs are not a vegetable and if you let it get fertilized it becomes meat... it belongs in the meat group...

Soy isn't so bad and unless you're extreamly picky it tastes just as good at the cow products...

Eggs overall are disgusting.  My uncle runs a hobby chicken coop, and I've had to go over there to gather the eggs when they are on holidays... after cleaning off the sh- and holding a warm egg (NOT warmed by boiling water...)  its rather revolting.  Considering where it came from, and what its purpose was... NOT food.

Vegetarians are not vegans... Vegetarians don't eat dead animals... Vegans don't eat anything that's come from an animal, they don't wear anything that's come from an animal, and they smell bad... [Cheesy]

LOL  and some are hippies.  I knew one.  But she seemed to think eating donuts was okay... Don't thos have dairy in them?  I tried like hell to convince her that they are made with milk, she flat out rebutted me and said they use synthetic dairy in donuts these days.  Whackjob?

Yeah Wackjob... but those vegans that still buy soy are not real vegans they only like using the title... most dairy replacement products still have dairy in them... if you read most labels of soy products they all have dairy in them... I prefer to use rice milk as a substitute...

my daughteris the pickiest she does not eat eggs unless it is in baking, she will use a tad of milk on cereal, then dump it down the drain when the cereal is gone! she hates that veggie ground round stuff it grosses her out, she will not eat fake meat!  She use to eat a bit of fish but now doesn't seem to eat that either. She eats fairly healthy lots of salds, fruits, whatever. she doesn't have the problem it is me,mostly. I am just sick of making the same old dishes. I make lots of dishes with tomatoes whether it is a soup ,pasta, chili etc. I make a yummy chick pea dish over rice but again I have about 6 or 7 cooked dishes that are our main dinners. I miss the easines of just throwing a roast or chicken in the oven! Eating healthy and vegetarain is alot more work and effort. Anyway if you have a couple of yummy simple meals you make for yourself that you love, sure feel free to post them and I will try something different

NS, put on food tv once in a while.. just avoid shows like iron chef and Emeril (Is he still on anyway?)  sometimes get some great ideas out there.  There's one guy that comes on at 7:30 am on foodtv, and sometimes has some really neat ideas he just grabs out of nowhere.

ya that is a good idea ,I actually did get a couple of recipes once from one of those shows. I just wish all the really good tasting stuff in this world was not so bad for you. Really everything that is
yummy and taste good is bad for your body. if we could live healthy on chocolate, chips and steak etc life would be better! However I will stick to the lower fat foods and fresh vegtables and fruits. perhaps it will pay off and I will live a few extra years for doing so![Smiley]

My grandma was a really healthy vegetarian that died at 63 from pneumonia after dealing with breast cancer.... My ex's grandmother is 90 something, smokes, drinks, eats nothing but fried foods and can't even take herself to the bathroom... she's lost a leg because of her smoking and drinking habbits... but she's 90something... My grandmother was nice to everyone... My ex's grandmother is a crotchity old bitch... hardly seems fair.

You got that right.. there are the exceptions all the time. smokers living long life and joggers dying at 25 from a stroke. You just never know but I figure if you can at least increase your odds ,why not try![Wink]
