Just curious how long beer will keep before going bad? We bought way too much for a big party we recently had. More then we will drink as we are not big drinkers and when we do drink it is more likely to be vodka or wine.
we keep inviting people over hoping to offer them some but they alway bring their own booze even when I tell them not too! Thats how we ended up with so much to start with! we had a big party and said don't bring anything, but of course people brought their own booze and even brought us some as hostess gifts.we ended up with a sh-load of beer and wine! the wine I can handle because I know it keeps and we will eventually get to drinking it,but I'm not sure about beer. I wouldn't want to give it to someone down the road only to find it has gone bad.
Anyone know what the shelf life of beer is?
thanks

I don't think anyone lets it sit long enough to find out it's shelf life ... [Cheesy][Cheesy]

(...unless it's Kokanee, then it can sit forever lol [xx(])

Depending on the beer, a couple of months up to maybe 6 months.

There should be expiration dates on the bottles but I find these are often more guidelines than anything else.

As I'm sure you know, the sooner you drink it the better.

LOL well I guess they feel funny coming over empty handed!
Most parties you go to people byob so I guess they figured they would. when they ask "can we bring anything" I said "NO" maybe they thought I was referring to food!

I think it would depend on the type of beer (possibly the more alcohol content - the longer shelf

Beer is a foodstuff. As with most foodstuffs, beer is perishable-it deteriorates as a result of the action of bacteria, light, and air. However, unlike other food products, packaged beer is not legally mandated to carry a "sell by" date. Nonetheless, some domestic beer sold in the United States does carry a freshness date.

I know other bottle booze goes bad too. Once I bought some bottled "Ceasars" to take to a party because I like to drink ceasars and I thought it would be aesier to just buy some premade ones. That stuff was nasty! It didn't taste anything like what I would of made using a bottle of vodka!I had one only then the rest were poured down the sink after sitting in my fridge! it's funny how you let crap sit in your fridge hoping someone will eat it or drink it,only to throw it out a little while later. We tend to do this with left overs!LOL I always have good intentions on eating it later, then never do,it sits there gets forgotten about then I go to clean out the fridge and chunk it all out!

You could use beer in batter for fish and chips. Or open a can of beer, remove 1/2 liquid and stick it up a chicken's butt, place on BBQ and close lid. Seriously. The stuff works.

good idea! I think I even saw a recipe on here for beer batter.Don't some people use it on their hair too?
I remember as a kid hearing all sorts of home made recipes for hair conditioner from lemon juice,to beer.
Kind of a waste I guess but better then just going down the drain!
we have company  for dinner this saturday I'll do my best to pawn it off on them! Again I know they will bring wine[:I]

Beer should only stay in your fridge for 7 days after that you should just send it to me as I know what to do with it. [Cheesy]

I'd be happy to give it to you. Whats your address?

what pisses me off is we have all this stupid beer, my husband hardly drinks any of it. Then we go for dinner at a restaurant and what does he do...orders a beer!
I think WTF, why don't you drink up some from home instead of paying $6 or so for one in a restaurant!!

Fresh beer, the stuff that is made according to Bavarian Beer Laws (made from only hops water malt yeast) will only stay fresh a few days ... Commercial crappy beer (Molsons Labatts MGD crap like that) is loaded with all kinds of adjuncts and could probably keep indefinitely provided it is kept in cool shady place ... but why would you want to keep that cat piss?
Drink Real Beer ... Wheats, Lagers, Ales, IPAs, Reds, Porters, Stouts ... there are several microbreweries around town that brew their own Real Beer ... Dix, Yaletown, Steamworks, Big River ... these are some of my favourites

DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR, DRINK REAL BEER

i've found cans of beer in my trunk that rolled out of sight and were at least two yrs old. i drank them and they tasted no different than a beer one week old--temperature and light are the culprits i say

of course, light would not affect a can as it would a bottle. i'm including cans with bottles only on the temperature.

The people who brought the beer will return and drink the beer. No worries.

about 30 yrs ago, they found canned food rations from ww1 on the battle field. after tests, the food was still intact and safe to consume.
