i'm here now, but there is a great 'fifth estate' show on about lehman brothers, richard fuld and wall street. i just eat this stuff up. btw, when people were losing 30 to 50% of their hard earned savings by listening to these idiot financiers and advisors, i was making over 20 to 25% in precious metals--gold and now silver and i'm looking at small cap gold mining stock and i'm tempted. that is where the really big money will be--small cap gold mines. 2500% is not out of reach and it has happened before.

I hear that those camp jobs pay huge salaries, I thought about going to Alberta to work for a few months before and come back rich.

well, you wouldn't get rich in a few months. also, you are further ahead to have experience in some field related to what you're doing. if you went in and stayed for a few years--again it would depend what you are doing cuz some of it is only seasonal and the pay ranges vary--you could walk out with a few hundred thousand after taxes.
it gets addictive too. it is hard to come back to the city and do the same job for maybe one third as much. plus, all your food--which is first class--is cooked for you. your laundry is done. your driven back 'n forth to the job site and camp. it can get lonely and repetitious, but if you just keep thinking about getting back and being loaded and how great that will be, it is worth it. plus, it is great for a resume.
just make sure you do some checking about who you are going to go to work for and get all the facts so you know what you are getting into.

Yeah, right... Gold peaked in 1981 (US$599, equivalent to $1417 in U.S. 2008 dollar value) and after that it's just a decline. Nice investment... NOT  Grin

gust, you do not buy gold like you buy real estate. you can not compare the two. gold is an investment during unstable times--inflationary times for one. you buy low and sell high. you do not ever plan to hold it like a house that you live in. look at the chart below

if you bought gold ten years ago, a million would now be 4 million. there is no insurance, no tax and no hassles as with owning real estate.

if you bought gold anywhere around 1970, it was 50 bucks an ounce. if you sold it around 1980 you would have made 15 times more--one million would become 15 million. of course, you will never always pick the exact lows/buy and highs/sell. however, with some experience, it is not difficult to be within 10%. gold is low riight now and it will shyrocket likely within 5 yrs or much sooner.  in times like this, the little guy would have a lot of trouble making money as safely as is possible in gold/silver bullion. i can sleep at night because i know for the next while, nothing is safer and as profitable as gold/silver bullion/coins is. it is going up and nothing can stop it now.
