Telus is offering the Motorola Milestone Android phone this month, the first Android type phone in Canada. This will be huge competition to the iPhone and the Blackberry, and is expected to be a bigger standard than the iPhone in the future.

I want one, I am just worried about how much a month my cell phone bill might end up costing

you can watch youtube videos on the thing, so I think bandwidth might get eaten up fast

The Milestone(aka Droid) is quite bulky with the keyboard. What does it mean by first Android type phone? I thought the Rogers HTC Dream and Magic were the first Android phones in Canada. Anyways, the Milestone is the only Android phone with Android 2.0. Telus already have the HTC Hero.

Fuzzbrain you have to ge ta data plan in order to get these smartphones at discount price. Cost around $25/month for a data plan, but you can cancel it after a month by paying a $100 cancellation fee. These phones already got wifi. If you don't need the data plan then I guess you can always cancel it.

I heard Telus quoted as saying that the Milestone costs them less than the iPhone and is more powerful, hopefully they pass that saving on to customers when they offer them

has anyone heard what the price will be for the Milestone when it is released? I hope they offer it for free on a 3 year contract

It won't be for free with 3 year contract seeing how the Hero cost $50 with 3 year contract. I'm guessing the milestone might be $99.

Cell phones and gadgets are so exciting. Why is that?

I found this information:

So far there have been several dates rumored about the upcoming and highly awaited Motorola Milestone Android powered phone… Bloomberg confirmed today that the device will be launched next week on February 18th, it will be an exciting day in Canada. Pricing is expected to be $199 on a 3-year contract or $549 to purchase the milestone with no contract.

In interviews,  Bob Mcfarlane of Telus has stated “There’s a coolness about it, the way it’s integrated the keyboard… I’m optimistic that it’s going to be a good product for us.” It will be one of the biggest product launches in the cell phone market in a long time.

Nexus one is a good choice too, but I love having both keyboards available like the Milestone

both are great phones though, and Android is the future, much better choice than iPhone

How much you paid for the Milestone? You renewed your telus contract? Or just bought it for $599?

$200 on a 3 year contract

I hear that if you know a Telus employee you can get it for $120, but I didn't want to bother with that

what's your plan like? You have a data plan now? My Fido contract expires on April 6th. I am looking to either renew with Fido or switch to Telus. I just don't have the patience to wait for Wind.

I get 5 gig data, 200 minutes, free caller id and voice mail, 5pm evening free, weekends free, my favorite 5 nationwide unlimited free, unlimited text messaging for $100 a month

if you don't need all that data it would be lots cheaper, but I am tethering it to my laptop for internet access too so I have the best of both worlds without needing to get a separate internet stick for my laptop, it is lightning fast

Hey Fuzzbrain, I'm about to get myself a Nexus One off a girl from Craigslist. The person claim it's brand new, but he/she charged it once. I hope it's fast.

DDD if you're with a provider for 2+ and you renew with them you can ask for good deals new costumers don't get. All the plans out there are pretty rip off.

telus

just like Guardianflash said, if you have been with a provider for awhile you can contact their loyalty department and get some freebies of a better deal, call Telus, tell them you are thinking of renewing but also tell them that you have been looking at Fido too and you were wondering if you could talk to "loyalty" and then ask them if they can offer you a better deal... they will
